Although I love to take pictures of my baby daughter, I have come to realize how difficult it can be to get a picture perfect baby photo without having to have it professionally done. After a lot of practice and trying different things, I have found some key things that help ensure that my pictures come out cute. So if you are looking to take better baby photos, try using the following tips.
The first thing that you need to keep in mind when taking a baby photo is that you have to get down on the baby's level. Often you can see more of the top of a baby's head in pictures than you can of the baby's expressions. Since your baby's personality is what you really want to capture in the baby photo, you need to realize that you are much taller than your baby is. So what I recommend is that you either kneel, sit, or even lay down when snapping a picture of your little one. Allowing the camera to capture them head on, will make the baby photo much more effective at showing your baby's mischievous or shy personality. If you are trying to take a professional looking picture, you may want to put your baby up on a bed or some place more at your level. That way you can take pictures faster and easier. Just make sure that you have someone else around to make sure that the baby doesn't fall.
The second thing to keep in mind is that you need to schedule the picture taking around the baby. Since babies are unpredictable when it comes to their moods, you need to recognize that the baby may not want to pose for a photo for your baby girl or baby boy when you are ready. So try to recognize when your baby's happiest times of the day are and what things help put him in a good mood. That way you are more likely to get smiles in your baby photo rather than tears and scowls. Also, don't forget to have entertaining objects nearby so that you can get the baby's attention quickly and sustain it long enough to snap your baby photo. If you find it too difficult to get a smile for the baby photo, try taking creative pictures when he is asleep. These almost always come out looking adorable.
Finally, when taking baby photos, you will find that it works the best when using a digital camera. Set the camera so that you don't have a delay between each snapped picture. That way you can just keep snapping. This will give you a better chance of catching that cute smile on camera. Also, since the camera is digital, you don't have to worry about wasting film. Just take a ton of pictures and then scroll through them later to find the ones you like best.
Remember that getting the perfect baby photo takes practice and patience. Through time you will find that you can have the cutest pictures around.
